Roksan Caspian Series 4G Streaming Pre-Amplifier and Power Amplifier Launch Event

January is usually a dull and uneventful time of the year, where there is not much going on, not in the Monitor Audio Group of companies, though, as they chose the middle of January to launch new and exciting products from Roksan and the Caspian line, which is hot on the heels of the newly released integrated amplifier. They have designed and built their latest flagship products: the new Caspian 4G streaming preamplifier and power amplifier.

The Monitor Audio Group chose the Sanctum Soho Hotel, where they have installed all of their Monitor Audio line of speakers, a rather fitting location for this new product launch. Hosted in the lower ground area and a dedicated theatre room, which even had a bar area too, for refreshments. All the press were invited to this special launch event, and lots of tea, coffee, and breakfast were a welcome stop and recharge before settling down for the presentation of the new preamplifier and power amplifier from Roksan.

It's quite a special time for Roksan as a company, as they have just celebrated their 40th Year in business in 2025, and they are not showing any signs of slowing down with their new Attessa and Caspian product lines. With such an established history, this is an all-British brand which is designed and built in the UK, which is a rare thing nowadays, especially when most products are designed in the UK but built abroad.

The launch event started off with a presentation by the UK and Global Marketing Director for the Monitor Audio group, Michael Johnson who presented the attendees with the history and also the forward vision of the Roksan brand, it was fascinating listening to how the new Caspian series came to fruition and also the R&D that they have undertaken with this project and the many years of development to make it what it is today, with cutting edge design and technology inside and out. Charles Minett and Michael Hedges, Product Design Director and Technical Director, gave us an exciting look at the technology at the heart of the Caspian range and what sets it apart from other brands on the market today. They looked at the most successful products currently trending. Digital streaming is most certainly that market, which is why the streaming part of the new range takes centre stage. It also allows the Caspian to be the heart of your central system, while not forgetting the purist audiophiles and their love of analogue music, ensuring the Caspian preamplifier excels with all your music formats. That is why they have also included an advanced MM and MC phono stage for your beloved vinyl.

One of the main features I found intriguing was the MaestroUnite Application, which can be accessed on your smartphone and lets you configure the Caspian Preamplifier and Power amplifier. With an intuitive GUI and access to advanced settings, you can configure both units exactly as you would like. Everything is software-driven. The only thing you need to do is connect the cables; the input configurations are all taken care of by the software. Fascinating, and I managed to see it working with all the different configs. In contrast, the amplifier can be set for stereo use or bridged, turning it into powerful monoblocks. This is a welcome feature, as usually this would all be done by physically switching switches on the devices; it even shows you the diagrams in the app for connecting up your speakers and cables. Another great attention to detail is the way that the OLED's on the units light up differently depending on the configuration and on the power amps; they move up and down depending on how much volume is applied, they can even be turned off if you want to, and no matter what angle you look at them, they remain visually the same.

The design and key technologies that go into the new Caspian range are extensive, with such a long list of proprietary tech that I will highlight the features for you, as there are so many to discuss and explain, which is better conveyed through excerpts from the Roksan Caspian press release and products guide.

Key Technologies

 

Rapture DAC

Caspian Series 4G utilises Roksan’s powerful Rapture DAC technology, a differential current-conveyor topology, which allows more information to be extracted for the best possible analogue reproduction. This topology offers several measurable advantages over the traditional approach to digital-to-analogue reconstruction using op-amp ICs. The current conveyor has superior gain-bandwidth characteristics essential for faithful high-resolution audio reproduction. Moreover, despite being discrete (no off-the-shelf solution exists), it relies on a single circuit element for gain matching. Therefore, it can be utilised effectively in a discrete-component level solution.

 

Euphoria Amplification

Caspian Series 4G uses Roksan’s authoritative and intelligent class AB amplifier architecture, Euphoria, which excels in power and finesse. Roksan has evolved the AB topology, with individual power supplies for the current and voltage amplifiers. This reduced interaction delivers purer, more detailed and cleaner sound.

 

Ultra-High-Res Volume Control

Caspian Series 4G’s innovative volume control encapsulates the best of both the digital and analogue worlds. A hybrid digital-analogue volume control algorithm leverages powerful digital signal processing to facilitate tone controls and system matching.

 

Powerful DSP Engine

Accessed via the MaestroUnite app, Caspian Series 4G’s intelligent DSP engine optimises a user’s listening experience by applying four key technologies: Intelligent Tone, Intelligent Boundary, Intelligent Speaker, and Intelligent Phono. In combination, these technologies allow users to fine-tune their listening experience to their environment for the best possible results. 

 

High-resolution Display

Caspian Series 4G’s new mono Colour high-contrast OLED display frames the intuitive single-point-of-control user interface more clearly and larger than ever before. Customisable input icons make source selection easy, while a new progress indicator displays features such as track length.

 

Internal Antenna

Internal, fully custom-built antennas feature reflectors to protect sensitive circuits from interference. This ensures the Caspian Series 4G Streaming Pre-Amplifier looks smart while providing the best possible Wi-Fi connection to a user’s router.  

 

BluOS

BluOS remains Roksan’s streaming partner of choice for the Caspian Streaming Amplifier, and for good reason. BluOS provides users with access to limitless music via the world’s most popular streaming services, and the ability to wirelessly stream music at lightning-fast speeds with zero loss in sound quality. Users can stream up to 64 zones of high-resolution audio at 24-bit, 192kHz. Using BluOS also means effortless browsing and access to locally stored music collections and streaming services.

 

MaestroUnite app

Caspian Series 4G makes use of Monitor Audio Group’s in-house designed MaestroUnite app. The intuitive-to-use app offers simple setup options and access to advanced features such as input configuration, headphone sensitivity, analogue input gain, balance, low-power standby, and the Roksan DSP Engine’s enhanced features for tailoring a system to a specific environment.

 

Design & Build

Caspian Series 4G builds on the foundations laid by the Roksan Attessa electronics, yet dramatically extends performance, the intuitive user experience, and the physical design presence. The aesthetic identity remains sleek, clean and modern, while clever design elements such as the custom extruded heatsinks, internal antennas and chamfered machined edging are pure Roksan.

 

Transparent Design Philosophy

Caspian Series 4th Generation is a product of Monitor Audio Group’s Transparent Design Philosophy, an R&D philosophy of maintaining a balance between Design and Technology. One is never allowed to overpower the other, and both play a vital role in delivering on the promise of musical neutrality, acoustic transparency, and an intuitive user experience.

The main listening session was conducted using the gorgeous Monitor Audio Platinum PL300 speakers and one of their own 15" subwoofers to underpin the speakers for the lower octaves. A variety of music from their own playlist was used, and attendees' requests were used to demonstrate the system's capabilities. It was clear from the very beginning of listening to the new Caspian preamp and power amplifiers that they possess vast amounts of power, delivering 400 watts to each speaker, which gave a very dynamic, powerful sound with excellent control and imaging presented in front of us. I came away very impressed by what I heard, and considering the price point, this is one potent system that hits way above its price. Hopefully, at some point in the future, I will get the chance to evaluate the Caspian range in my own system for a more detailed and extensive review. Still, from what I have heard, this is most certainly a high-end audio system that deserves serious consideration.
