The latest collection to emerge from the Vicenza factory, the new three-strong Lumina speaker range enables complete flexibility for a range of A/V applications, including music, movies and gaming, all from just £799. The Lumina collection comprises the Lumina I standmount, a compact bookshelf speaker that looks great as an individual stereo pair or as surround speaker in a home cinema set-up, the Lumina III floorstander, which ensures powerful, distortion-free music with advanced speech intelligibility for games and movies, plus the Lumina Center I, a centre channel aligned in both appearance and acoustics.

LU-MI-NA

In Latin, ‘Lumina’ means ‘light’, but also a source of energy and life. To Sonus faber, this moniker can be extended to embody three key Lumina design elements.

‘LU’ (luxury sound experience). The first two letters stand for ‘luxury’. This element symbolises Sonus faber’s commitment to deliver a luxurious musical experience, through the company’s longstanding tradition of refined materials and careful craftsmanship.

‘MI’ (minimalist design). The second two letters stand for ‘minimalist’. The principal of minimalism directly captures the essence of the product, which was thoughtfully designed in conjunction with the theory, ‘less is more’.

The new collection comprises the core values of Sonus faber and the precious materials that identify the brand, such as real multilayer wood and leather, combining them with incredible performance in a simple yet luxurious design. Simplicity remains central to the collection’s identity with its easy set-up, accessible price point and sound performance.

The cabinets are perfectly squared: the designers executed a minimalistic look in order to emphasise the quality of materials used. A careful study of proportions was carried out to guarantee accurate volumes for sound performance and compact dimension for set up.

Lumina’s multilayer wood on the front baffle (and the real-wood veneer) is available in iconic premium finishes including Walnut and Wengè (both in matte finish with maple  inlays), with a third option of Piano Black; all other surfaces of the cabinet are painstakingly hand-covered in the company’s iconic black leather.
The chrome rings around the drivers highlight shapes and proportions and give brightness to the front baffle while outlining the Voice of Sonus faber. Luminas are also provided with two pairs of nickel-plated terminals, allowing for by bi-wiring and bi-amping. Lumina’s crossover features some specially designed Sonus faber-branded high-quality capacitors.
NA’ (natural sound)
Finally, the last two letters embody the natural sound reproduction and Voice of Sonus faber. The Lumina electro-acoustic project is targeting solutions designed for modern lifestyles and various listening environments, without compromising performance.
Multichannel systems and multimedia solutions are perfect for Lumina. Thanks to updated technology, Lumina speakers are incredibly adaptable wherever they are placed, even close to a back wall or on a bookshelf.

Lumina drive unit technology

Lumina uses Sonus faber’s iconic D.A.D. (Damped Apex DomeTM) tweeter, the same used in the company’s Sonetto series, featuring a Kurtmueller hand-coated soft-silk 29mm diaphragm.

The 100mm (4-inch) midrange driver has been freshly developed for the Lumina collection and is specified with a custom-made basket and a cellulose pulp, blended with other natural fibres, diaphragm. The 125mm (5-inch) midrange unit heralds from the Sonetto series and features Sonus faber’s proprietary natural fibre and paper blend air-dried diaphragm.

The 125mm (5-inch) bass units have been designed from scratch for Lumina and also feature a paper pulp cone, for perfect coherence with the rest of the drivers.

Finally, the reflex ports, placed on the frontside of the bookshelf and centre channel and downward-firing on the base of the floorstander, give additional versatility. Thanks to this solution, Lumina speakers are significantly less sensitive to placement.

Lumina and home cinema

The Lumina collection features three models offering a perfectly balanced solution for traditional stereo enthusiasts as well as those looking to experience a multichannel home cinema system.

Complementing the Lumina range is Sonus faber’s five-strong Gravis series of subwoofers which can be used to augment low frequencies to achieve maximum performance and a fuller listening experience. Lumina and Gravis, in a 5.1-channel configuration, offers enveloping effects for movies and an immersive atmosphere for music concerts and gaming.
